Washing Machine Not Spinning? Causes and Fixes (UAE)

A washing machine that runs through its cycle but leaves your clothes dripping wet is one of the most common faults we are called out for in the UAE. The good news: the cause is usually one of a handful of parts, and most are a same-day fix.

Why your washing machine will not spin

If the drum fills, washes and drains but never reaches a fast spin, work through these in order – the first two you can check yourself:

  • Unbalanced load. A single heavy item (a bath towel or bedsheet) or a tangled load throws the drum off balance, and the machine deliberately refuses to spin to protect itself. Redistribute the load and try again.
  • Blocked drain or filter. Most machines will not spin until they have fully drained. In the UAE, hard-water scale and lint clog the drain pump and filter every few months. Clear the drain-pump filter (bottom-front flap) and check the drain hose for kinks.
  • Worn or snapped drive belt. On belt-driven machines, a stretched or broken belt means the motor spins but the drum does not. This needs a replacement belt.
  • Failed door interlock. If the machine cannot confirm the door is locked, it will not spin for safety. A faulty interlock switch is a common, inexpensive fix.
  • Worn carbon brushes or motor fault. On older machines the motor brushes wear down and the drum loses power on the high-speed spin.
  • Control-board fault. Less common, but a failed PCB – sometimes after a DEWA/SEWA power spike – can stop the spin signal reaching the motor.

Try this first: stop the machine, open the drain-pump filter at the bottom-front and clear any lint, coins or scale, then run a short spin-only cycle with a balanced load. If it now spins, the drain was the issue. If it still will not spin, the fault is mechanical or electrical – time to book a technician.

Front-load vs top-load

On front-loaders (the most common in UAE apartments), no-spin faults are most often the drain pump, the door interlock, or the drive belt. On top-loaders, a failed lid switch or a worn clutch/transmission is more typical. Either way, the diagnosis is quick once a technician is in front of the machine.

Is it worth repairing?

Almost always yes. Belts, filters, interlocks and brushes are inexpensive parts relative to a new machine, and a spin fault rarely means the machine is finished. We give a fixed written quote after diagnosis so you can decide with the numbers in front of you.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my washing machine wash but not spin?

Usually it cannot drain (a blocked pump or filter), the load is unbalanced, or the drive belt or door interlock has failed. Clear the filter and rebalance the load first; if it still will not spin, the fault is mechanical or electrical.

Can I fix a washing machine that will not spin myself?

You can safely check two things: rebalance the load, and clear the drain-pump filter. Anything beyond that (belt, interlock, brushes, control board) needs a technician and the right replacement part.

How much does it cost to fix a washing machine that will not spin?

The diagnostic visit is AED 50, waived when you proceed. Most no-spin repairs are inexpensive – a belt, filter or interlock – and you get a fixed written quote before any work begins.

Do you repair all washing machine brands in the UAE?

Yes – front-load, top-load and integrated machines from every major brand including LG, Samsung, Bosch, Siemens, Whirlpool and Daewoo, with common parts carried on the van for a same-day repair.
